The new book, The One And Only: Chic Harley - America's Great Athlete, is the result of 16 years of research and writing by Chicago area newspaper editor and publisher, Todd C. Wessell. Prior to that, Richard Wessell, the author’s father and nephew of Chic Harley, spent years on his own gathering important information that also found its way into the book’s pages. Some of that data included tape recordings of teammates’ recollections of the man they referred to as The One And Only. Other valuable parts of the book come from personal observations and conversations the author, his siblings and parents had with their Uncle Chic during his many visits to the their home in Des Plaines, Illinois.

Todd Wessell graduated from Illinois State University in 1976 earning a degree in political science. Since that time he has served in various capacities at the family-owned Journal & Topics Newspapers that serve Chicago’s Northwest suburbs. He and Carolyn Kessler married in 1975 and are the parents of four children, Thomas, Erin, Katelyn and Daniel.
